Former Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, during his address at the National Meeting of the Construction Industry (Enic) held in Brasília, underscored the crucial role of optimism in the nation’s progress. He firmly stated that there’s no solid ground for the citizens to be disheartened or disbelieving. ‘There’s no reason for people to be pessimistic,’ he declared. According to Lula, collective willpower is the key driving force behind successful development. ‘The world can only work out if we want it to work out,’ he expressed. Lula’s remarks came amidst economic challenges that include a fiscal deficit of R$ 105.2 billion until September and a net outflow of US$ 56.2 billion from Brazil, marking the highest negative balance since 1982. Despite these challenges, Lula maintains an optimistic outlook and believes in his ability to bring positive change to the economy when in power. ‘When I come to power, luck accompanies me,’ he said, attributing the country’s performance to his leadership. Contrary to the present scenario, Lula highlighted that Brazil is exceeding pessimistic forecasts. Without citing specific figures, he argued that the actual economic growth will surpass initial estimates. ‘They said the country had no credibility, that we would grow at most 1.5%, but we are surprising yet again,’ he emphasized. At the event, Lula revisited his frequent criticism of Brazil’s high interest rates, questioning the justification for the current rate. He argued that the economic indicators allow for greater flexibility. ‘Why is the interest rate so high?’ he queried. According to Lula, inflation is under control, the economy is showing signs of recovery, and the country is experiencing the lowest unemployment rate since 2012. He believes it’s vital for more money to circulate among the populace to ensure economic growth and income distribution. His views and beliefs are a testament to his optimism and dedication to Brazil’s economic prosperity.
